Fire & Ice Contrast

Fire & Ice: hot, cold, and wide awake

Fire & Ice Contrast

What it is

Contrast therapy alternates warmth and cold. At Solivana you move between an infrared sauna and a cold plunge kept between 48 and 54°F, in your own private suite.

A traditional sauna heats the air with a stove, and the air heats you. Those rooms usually run between about 150°F and 195°F, and you feel it straight away as hot air on your face and in your breathing.

An infrared sauna uses panels that give off infrared light, which warms your body directly instead of heating the air first. The air stays cooler, so the room feels gentler while you still get hot and sweat.

Ours are infrared, and they heat up to 150°F. Infrared rooms generally don't go higher than that, which is why many people find them easier to breathe in and easier to stay in longer.

Why people love it

The hour has a shape: warm, then sharply awake. Guests come back for the minute after the plunge, when breathing gets deeper and the rest of the day feels manageable.

The heat is the easy part — most people stay in longer than they planned. The cold is the part they tell their friends about.

Long-running studies link regular sauna use with relaxation and wellbeing, and people consistently report feeling more alert after cold water.

Getting the most from it

  • Start gently: several minutes of heat, then 30 seconds to a couple of minutes of cold. Breathe slowly through the first seconds of the plunge.
  • Drink water before and after. Skip alcohol beforehand.
  • You can stop the plunge at any point, or skip it entirely — ask staff about adjustments.

Who it suits

Active people, sauna lovers, and anyone who wants to leave buzzing instead of drowsy.

Who should check first

Consult your clinician before heat/cold exposure if you have cardiovascular conditions, blood-pressure disorders, temperature sensitivity, are pregnant or take medication. Ask staff about adjustments and opting out of the plunge before purchasing. We can't book anyone in their first trimester for any experience. Later in pregnancy, check with your OB/GYN or midwife before booking.

Solivana experiences are wellness services, not medical diagnosis or treatment.
